Filming
A test session for Thalapathy 65, held on Feb 10, 2021 at Sun TV Network office in Chennai. On March 31, 2021, the film was presented at Sun TV Studios, with a formal bidding ceremony. However, Hegde was not present at the launch due to his busy schedule. Following the 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, Vijay and Nelson headed to Georgia for the film’s shooting schedule on April 7, 2021.
Sun Pictures released a post from the shooting location on April 9 , revealing that the film went into production. The crew shot 30% of the film in Georgia and the rest of the shoot in Chennai, due to restrictions due to the second wave of the pandemic. Vijay returned to Chennai on April 26, after filming in Georgia for 15 days, where an introductory song and some action sequences were filmed.
For the second show, a large shopping mall was replicated at EVP Film City in Chennai as shopping malls were closed in Tamil Nadu due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, Vijay asked the team to suspend production due to rising COVID-19 cases and the prevailing state lockdown in Tamil Nadu. diagnosed with COVID-19. Filming resumed in July 2021, with the second show running for 20 days.
A sequence was filmed on East Coast Road, where Valimai was filming, and a large set was built on location. Reports also claimed that the film’s shooting has progressed at the Intercontinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort. The crew moved to Gokulam Studios to film important sequences. The third time slot of the film started in Chennai on August 2, 2021 and lasted for more than three weeks.
Hegde returned to Chennai to shoot the film in November 2021. But due to heavy rain in Chennai, the sets were flooded, although none of the cast members were injured. It was also reported that the interiors of the sets were not damaged due to flooding. Filming wrapped on December 11, 2021. Vijay also finished dubbing his character the same month. The crew later reunited for a snippet shoot.
