PAK beat ENG, 1st T20: Liam Livingstone’s century in vain as Pakistan defeats England by 31 runs

ENG vs PAK T20: Recent form

Pakistan have their last three T20 series against Zimbabwe and South Africa before their tour of England. Babar Azam’s side registered a 2-1 win after the series was level at 1-1 following their collapse in the second game. They were far more impressive in the four T20Is against South Africa, winning the series 3-1 after a nail-biting finish in the last game. They also defeated the Proteas at home, winning the three-match series 2-1 again taking the game to the decider. In their last 10 T20Is, Pakistan have registered seven wins and will look to continue that momentum against England.

As for Eoin Morgan and Co., the hosts come into the series on the back of a 3-0 whitewash of Sri Lanka, winning all games by a comfortable margin. However, England did suffer defeat to India earlier this year, in a nail-biting five-match T20I series, with India clinching a 3-2 win. In their last 10 T20I games, the hosts like Pakistan have registered seven wins and three defeats, all of which came in their tour of India.

ENG vs PAK T20 series: Preview

With the T20 World Cup on the horizon, the series marks an important step of preparation for both teams. England are one of the favourites for the tournament and will look to continue their momentum while finding answers to the chinks in their armour. With a huge pool of players, the series offers many fringe players a chance to stake their claim for a place in the T20 World Cup squad, and get as many runs, wickets and matches under their belt.

As for Pakistan, the series will be aimed at restoring some lost pride after their humiliating 3-0 whitewash in the ODIs. Babar Azam’s side have performed well in the shortest format of the game over the years, but England will prove to be their toughest opposition in some time and it remains to be seen how the Men in Green approach the series. Like England, the series is an opportunity for various players to make their marks and put them in the discussion for the T20 World Cup squad.
