Early life

Morgan Freeman was born on June 1, 1937, in Memphis, Tennessee. He is the son of Mayme Edna (née Revere; 1912-2000), a teacher, and Morgan Porterfield Freeman (July 6, 1915 – April 27, 1961), a barber, who died of cirrhosis in 1961. He has three older brothers . According to DNA analysis, some of his ancestors were from the Songhai and Tuareg people of Niger. Some of Freeman’s great-great-grandparents were slaves who migrated from North Carolina to Mississippi. Freeman later found out that his Caucasian maternal great-great-great-grandfather had lived and was buried alongside Freeman’s African-American great-great-grandmother in the segregated South, as the two could not legally marry at the time. DNA testing suggested that among all of his African ancestors, a little over a quarter came from the area stretching from present-day Senegal to Liberia and three-quarters came from the Congo-Angola region.

When he was a baby, Freeman was sent to his paternal grandmother in Charleston, Mississippi. He moved frequently during his childhood, living in Greenwood, Mississippi; Gary, Indiana; and finally Chicago, Illinois. When Freeman was 16, he contracted pneumonia. He made his acting debut at age nine, playing the title role in a school play. He later attended Broad Street High School, a building that today serves as Threadgill Elementary School, in Greenwood, Mississippi. At age 12, he won a statewide theater competition and, while still in high school, he performed on a Nashville, Tennessee-based radio show.

Personal life:

Freeman was married to Jeanette Adair Bradshaw from October 22, 1967 to November 18, 1979  and subsequently married Myrna Colley-Lee on June 16, 1984 . The couple separated in December 2007 [197] and divorced on September 15, 2010. [197] Freeman has four children: Alfonso, Deena, Morgana and Saifoulaye. Freeman and Colley-Lee adopted Freeman’s granddaughter from their first marriage, E’dena Hines, and raised her together . On August 16, 2015, Hines, 33, was assassinated in New York City.

Freeman resides in Charleston, Mississippi, and maintains a home in New York City. He obtained a private pilot license at age 65 . and owns or has owned at least three private jets, including a Cessna Citation 501, a twin-engine Cessna 414 and an Emivest SJ30. When asked if he believed in God, Freeman said, “It’s a tough question because, like I said at the beginning, I think we invented God. So if I believe in God, and I believe it, it is because I believe that I am God. “Freeman later said that his experience working on God’s Story with Morgan Freeman did not change his views on religion.

On the night of August 3, 2008, Freeman was injured in a car accident when his 1997 Nissan Maxima rolled over near Ruleville, Mississippi. He and his passenger, Demaris Meyer, had to be freed from the vehicle with hydraulic tools. Freeman was conscious after the accident and joked with a photographer at the scene . He was airlifted to The Regional Medical Center (The Med) hospital in Memphis. [210] [211] He broke his left shoulder, arm, and elbow and required surgery on August 5. Doctors operated on him for four hours to repair nerve damage in his shoulder and arm. His publicist announced that he was expected to make a full recovery. Although alcohol was not considered a factor in the accident, Meyer sued Freeman for negligence, claiming that he had been consuming alcohol, but the lawsuit was ultimately settled for an undisclosed amount. Since the incident, Freeman suffers from fibromyalgia.

In December 2010, Freeman met with President Bill Clinton, the president of the United States Soccer Federation, Sunil Gulati, and soccer player Landon Donovan in Zurich for a presentation to run for the headquarters rights of the USA

On May 24, 2018, CNN published an investigation in which eight women accused Freeman of being “too flirtatious” by “making inappropriate comments” while on the movie set or at his production company.  In response, Freeman issued an apology; “Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows that I am not someone who would knowingly offend or make someone feel uncomfortable. I apologize to anyone who feels uncomfortable or disrespected, that was never my intention.”  The spokeswoman for Lori McCreary, Freeman’s business partner, did not respond to CNN’s request for comment. Several journalists spoke in response to the story, including Tyra Martin, who stated, “I am not, I was never [a victim]. CNN totally misrepresented the video and took my comments out of context.”  Freeman’s attorney demanded CNN to retract the story. The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) did not take any action against Freeman.

Career of Morgan Freeman:

Why did he become so famous?

Although Freeman is one of the most famous living actors today and his voice is recognizable by hearing just one word come out of his mouth, the actor did not start landing major roles until he was 50 years old. Driving Miss Daisy was released in 1989 when Freeman was 52, but it was the role of his life, as the actor helped the film win the Best Picture award at the Academy Awards and the actor was even nominated as Best Actor.

Driving Miss Daisy opened the floodgates for Morgan Freeman when he went on to star in The Shawshank Redemption, the adaptation of the Stephen King novel of the same name, and is currently ranked the best movie of all time on IMDB. Since then, throughout the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s, Freeman has landed dozens of roles, many of which have become classics, including Unforgiven, Seven, and even Bruce Almighty, the Jim Carrey comedy in which Morgan Freeman plays God.

Most famously, Freeman played Luscious Fox, Batman’s gadget supplier in The Dark Knight trilogy, which has grown into a multi-billion dollar franchise. All three films were incredibly popular and are often referred to as the best Batman movies to date. Each film achieved greater box office success than the last. Batman Begins made $ 370 million worldwide, but its two sequels, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, nearly joined the billion-dollar movie club.

What makes it so successful?

Thanks to his deep, syrupy voice, Freeman has not only landed a job as a voice actor, but also as a storyteller. He has narrated Steven Spielberg’s remake of Tom Cruise starring War of the Worlds, the Mike Myers comedy, The Love Guru, Conan the Barbarian and Alpha. Freeman has also hosted several TV shows like The Story of God with Morgan Freeman, despite being an atheist.

Above all, the actor has narrated countless documentaries, especially about the planet and wildlife, seemingly battling David Attenborough for the narrator of the documentary with the most relaxing voice. Most notably, Freeman narrated the documentary March of the Penguins, which had a budget of only $ 8 million but went on to earn nearly $ 130 million, making it one of the highest-grossing documentaries of all time. The success of the film is due in large part to Freeman’s soft voice, which was the main focus of the film’s trailer and marketing.

Freeman’s voice work has prevailed throughout his career and that magical voice box of his has helped him rise to Hollywood stardom more than anything else, being Hollywood’s favorite guy for all things voice. in off. However, besides that, most of the time he plays warm, kind and dignified characters. Although Freeman occasionally takes roles in comedies and action movies, the actor finds more success in Oscar-level movies thanks to his manners and attitude.

In 1997, Freeman and business partner Lori McCreary founded Revelations Entertainment, a film production company. They also founded ClickStar in 2006, a film download company, with investment from Intel Corporation. ClickStar ceased operations in 2008. Freeman owns and operates Ground Zero, a blues club in Clarksdale, Mississippi and is the former co-owner of Madidi, a fine dining restaurant in the same city.
