New Zealand’s Sophie Devine smashes fastest T20 hundred in women’s cricket

New Zealand women’s team captain Sophie Devine smashed the fastest century in women’s T20 history in a domestic match for Wellington Blaze.

The 31-year-old reached her century in just 36 balls and beat the record set by Deandra Dottin, who made a century of 38 balls in 2010.

In her unbeaten 38-ball 108, she hit nine sixes and nine fours as Wellington chased 129 in 8.4 overs to drop Otago Sparks by 10 wickets in the Super Smash in Dunedin.

Sophie was returning when she ended her two-week quarantine four days ago after returning from Australia after playing for Perth Scorchers in the Women’s Big Bash League.

It should be noted that Chris Gayle holds the record for the fastest century in T20 cricket for men. He hit 30-ball century in 2013.
