Filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda’s film Odia, Kalira Atita, has now entered the race for the 2021 Oscars and has received nominations in several categories. The director used his social media account to share the same with fans. Nila said that the film is in the general admission category and will be available for the academy screening.

“In a year full of challenges, please be very happy to announce that #KaliraAtita has entered the Oscar race in category 4 for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director and many other categories. It is available for the Academy Screening, Grateful to all Hands together, “Panda tweeted.
The film is about the villages that disappear off the east coast of India in Odisha due to climate change and rising sea levels.
The film is available in the Academy’s screening room and will be viewed by Academy members for voting and nomination, a statement said.

“It was a difficult year for me to qualify as all theaters are closed in Los Angeles and New York. We have started publicity and we have approached the judges to show the film,” said Panda.
The film was previously screened in the Indian Panorama section of the 51st India International Film Festival in Goa.
