Pani Ch Madani, which takes you back to the 80s, is reminiscent of the random film making of that era, when many projects were made without even a handwritten script and without a sense of direction. Following a vague story idea, with nothing concrete on paper, the scenes were written on the floor before the sequences could be filmed according to the actors ’dates. Without the logical flow of storytelling, Pani C. jumps from one plot to another and builds on a two-hour film-complete narrative.

However, as the musical troupe moves to the UK for their public events, full attention quickly shifts to a lottery ticket, forgetting all about the story of its first half. From here, an important part of the film revolves around the lost winning ticket and the body of a beggar buried in a graveyard.

Producers who forcibly add a Pakistani character to the narrative and point out the hopeful families in Punjab who depend on boys working abroad are trying in vain to present it as a socially relevant film. The social message is never conveyed in the desired form and the film ends abruptly without any impact on the audience.

Slow writing also causes the team to almost destroy a group of talented actors. While Jippy Grewal, Gurpreet Guggi and Karamjit Anmol are trying their best, Neeru Bajwa gets no support from the script (despite playing the lead) and Iftikhar Thakur is wasted. The film manages to entertain as well as inform. The first track acts as a duet (is a hit), but the more decisive song at the climax is not a big disappointment.

Also, at the end of the film, it makes you question why this project was unnecessarily envisioned as a period drama? Just for the plot of the duet singers who left halfway through! Anyway, one can watch it for the names involved. Yet, Panich Madani is nothing more than a mediocre film, and its title literally translates to ‘trying to create something out of nothing’.
