Rachel Hannah Wise (/ vaɪs / VICE, born March 7, 1970 or 1971) is a British actress. She has won several awards, including the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the Laurence Olivier Awards, and the British Academy Film Awards.
Wise began acting on the British stage and on television in the early 1990s and made her film debut in Death Machine (1994). Early life and family
Wise was born on March 7, 1970 or 1971 in Westminster, London, and grew up in Hampstead Garden Suburb. His father, George Wise (1929-2020), was a Jewish mechanical engineer in Hungary. His mother, Edit Ruth (born in Teich, 1933-2016), went from being a teacher in Vienna, Austria to a psychotherapist. His parents emigrated to England as children to escape the Nazis around 1938, before the outbreak of World War II. The ancestors of his maternal grandfather were Austrian Jews. His maternal grandmother’s ancestors were Italian Catholics. Academic and social activist James Parks helped her mother’s family from Austria to England. Wise’s mother grew up in a Catholic church and she officially converted to Judaism when she married Wise’s father. Wise’s maternal grandfather was Alexander Take, a Jewish activist who was secretary of the World Union of Jewish Students. Her sister Minnie Weisz is a visual artist.
Wise’s parents appreciated art. They also encouraged the children to form their opinions by participating in family discussions. Wise graduated from the University of North London, she attended Benenden School for a year and completed Level A at St. Paul’s Girls’ High School.
